Yesterday, in terrible weather conditions, our relay team won the Paeroa to Thames relay race for the second year in a row. Although they didn't beat their own course record (which they set last year) their time of 2 hrs 16 mins for the 28.7km was an incredible result. It was great to see that our regular Friday afternoon training sessions (which I enjoyed immensely) had really prepared the students for this challenging event. The photo shows Hunter on the final leg before he crossed the line with the whole team (shown left to right in the photo) Hunter, Graeme, Ryan, Torin, Alyssa, Courtney, Jade and Milo. Special thanks to Larissa who managed the runners on the day, Wouter who biked the trail with the students and all the parents who transported and supported the students throughout the race. Well done to everyone - Great team work!!
Middle Syndicate Speech Competition
On Friday, the Middle Syndicate held their speech competition. Our two judges, Mr Iles and Mrs Baty, said the the standard of speeches was very high and they enjoyed the wide range of topics, as did the audience. Well done to all the students who took part (it shows a lot of courage to speak before such a large group); special congratulations to our top four:
Olivia Walton 1st
Rosie Juby 2nd
Sian Lees 3rd
Hunter Rodgers 4th
What a great audience our students were too; it was lovely to have Rooms 3 and 4 joining us. Thank you to our judges, and also to all the parents and whanau who came to this event.
Olivia and Rosie will now take part in the Thames Valley Speech Competition on Friday 9th in our school hall. Good luck!!
